Photovoltaics (PV): The word contains two parts - Photon is the Greek word “light” and Volta (volt) is a name of physicist. As the word applies, photovoltaic converts the sunlight into electrical energy via solar cells.
Direct current (DC): Electricity that is constant in strength and direction.
Alternating current (AC): electric current that alternates between a positive maximum value and a negative maximum value at a characteristic frequency, usually 50 or 60 cycles per second. (Hertz)
Modules: The key component of PV system, they will convert the sunlight energy into electric energy thus produces the direct current
Inverter: Electrical equipment converts direct current into alternating current with 50Hz frequency which can fit into the grid.
Photovoltaic System: A system generates electrical power. The components of a PV system include modules, inverters, support structures, controlling system etc.
Utility: A public organization that supplies electrical power to specific facilities from a large central power and responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of electrical system.
Feed-in Tariff: An incentive mechanism to remunerate the energy produced by the PV system. The regional or national electricity utilities need to buy renewable electricity at above-market rates set by the government over a period of 20 to 25 years from the day the system is connected to the grid. The utilities are authorized to pass on this extra cost to the end users through their regular electricity bill.
